This year's theme for our classroom is <span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="color: rgb(139, 0, 0);">Be the Change.</span></span>  The idea comes from the Mahatma Gandhi quote, "You must be the change you want to see in the world."  <div><br></div><div>Fourth grade is an important year.  Our students are coming to an age where they are developing freedom of thought, choosing the principles they will live by, and learning what it means to be a productive citizen in our community.  Their growth in those areas will be molded by what they learn, what they read, and what they observe. </div><div><br></div><div>As I guide them in their learning, I'm going to push them to think about what they'll do with what they learn.  Our school, our community, our state, and our country are all in a position to make some changes.  Through our studies, students will begin to understand that with their new skills, and new experiences, THEY can see and become the changes that we need.  In addition, they can look inward, and start to be the change that they need for themselves.  </div><div><br></div><div>As we urge our students to BE the CHANGE, I truly believe that we'll start to see young people that make life-improving decisions for themselves, their families, and the world.   </div><div><br></div><div>Students:  What changes would you like to see...</div><div><br></div><div>in yourself?</div><div><br></div><div>in your neighborhood?</div><div><br></div><div>in your school?</div><div><br></div><div>in your city?</div><div><br></div><div>in other people?</div><div><br></div><div>in your family?</div><div><br></div><div>How can YOU show the world what things should be like?  </div>
